The 2025 KTM 990 Duke R has been revealed. It boasts 130 bhp and 103 Nm of torque.
In 2024, KTM marked the 30th anniversary of DUKE and introduced the 2025 KTM 990 DUKE R. This latest model packs a punch with its powerful features. It takes the already impressive KTM 990 DUKE to the next level. Positioned as a top contender in its category, the KTM 990 DUKE R offers more power and a sharper focus. This makes it the go-to choice for riders seeking an aggressive middleweight bike that excels on both the road and the track.
KTM 990 Duke R: Design, Hardware
The design of this bike is inspired by older KTM 990 SUPER DUKE R models, especially the second-gen ones from 2011 to 2013. The white trim, graphics, and matt black with white touches, plus the Electronic Orange gloss frame, give it a unique look. When you see the ‘R’ on the tank, you know it’s top-notch without any holds barred.
The KTM 990 Duke R shares its body design with the standard model. It sports a central projector LED light surrounded by boomerang-shaped LED turn signals. The bike boasts an edgy, angular fuel tank with extensions, a divided seat, and a rear cover.

KTM made some changes to the 990 Duke R to improve comfort, but the weight remains the same at 190 kg. They lifted the seat and increased the distance from the ground by 15 mm. This was done by extending the suspension travel and adjusting the swingarm angle to be steeper. This tweak allows for about 3 degrees more lean angle when taking on corners. Additionally, the mechanical grip has improved as they updated the frame and swingarm with a linkage construction at the back.
The front and rear suspension parts come from WP Apex. But now, the bike has fresh Open Cartridge forks offering 143 mm of travel. These new forks are 48 mm wide, an upgrade from the 43 mm ones found on the KTM 990 Duke. Furthermore, the suspension on the 990 Duke R is now 34% firmer.
The bike offers various ride settings like rain, street, sport, and custom/track modes. It also features launch control, traction control, different ABS settings, and additional functions. KTM has integrated Brembo Stylema monoblock calipers and a Brembo MCS master cylinder on both the front and rear. Moreover, there’s a 320 mm disc on the front, an upgrade from the previous 300 mm one.

KTM 990 Duke R: Engine
Unlike the KTM 990 Duke released last year, the new R version comes with a 947cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that boosts power by 7 bhp. This upgrade pushes the output from 121 PS to 128 PS. The torque remains at 103 Nm, but now it can rev up to 10,500 rpm. KTM achieved these improvements by tweaking the engine mapping. The engine works with a six-speed gearbox and includes a quick shifter for smoother gear changes.
