Powertrain & Performance
Under the hood lies a re-engineered 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 321 bhp and 420 Nm of torque—25 bhp and 20 Nm more than the Clubsport variant. Mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic gearbox, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds. Impressively, it has also become the fastest Volkswagen-badged car to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife, clocking a time of 07:46.13 minutes.

Volkswagen offers a GTI Performance Package for drivers who want more aggressive handling. The package lowers the ride height by an extra 5 mm, making a total drop of 20 mm. It comes with 19-inch Warmenau forged wheels fitted with Bridgestone Potenza Race semi-slick tires. An Akrapovič titanium exhaust system is included, cutting weight by 11 kg. The package also features software updates for smoother steering and the standard adaptive chassis control (DCC) for better ride quality.
