Maruti Suzuki e Vitara India-spec breaks cover with up to 543 km range, 5-star Bharat NCAP safety and Battery-as-a-Service ahead of 2026 launch.
India’s biggest carmaker has finally pulled the wraps off its first proper electric SUV for India. The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara has been revealed in India-spec guise with a claimed range of up to 543 km and a 5-star Bharat NCAP crash rating already under its belt – a seriously strong opening move in the midsize EV SUV space.

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will be sold in three variants – Delta, Zeta and Alpha – with two battery pack options. The entry-level Delta gets a 49 kWh pack, while the Zeta and Alpha variants step up to a larger 61 kWh unit. The headline number comes from that 61 kWh battery, which delivers an ARAI-certified driving range of up to 543 km on a single charge. The 49 kWh version targets a lower price point and is expected to offer a WLTP-claimed range of around 344 km, making it more city-focused while still usable on highway runs.

Both batteries power a single front-mounted electric motor. In India-spec form, the 49 kWh version is paired with a 144 PS motor, while the 61 kWh model bumps that to 174 PS, with torque pegged at around 193 Nm for both. That means the e Vitara sticks to a front-wheel-drive layout for now, with Maruti keeping the dual-motor AWD setup seen in some export markets for a later stage, if at all.

Step inside and the e Vitara feels every bit the new-age Nexa flagship. The cabin gets a neat dual-tone black-and-tan theme, a dual-screen layout with a 10.25-inch touchscreen for infotainment and a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster, a dual-spoke steering wheel and premium touches like ambient lighting and an Infinity sound system. Higher variants add a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 10-way powered driver’s seat, wireless connectivity and multiple drive modes, positioning the SUV as a tech-rich upgrade for existing Maruti owners looking to switch to electric.

Safety is clearly one of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara biggest talking points. The SUV has already secured a full 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests, with strong scores in both adult and child occupant protection – the highest ever for a Maruti Suzuki model. Standard kit includes seven airbags, ESC, seatbelt reminders, ISOFIX child-seat mounts, all-disc brakes and a high-strength body structure, while top trims add ADAS features and a 360-degree camera for an extra layer of protection and convenience.

To ease range anxiety, Maruti Suzuki is pairing the e Vitara with a massive charging and ownership ecosystem push. The company is rolling out over 2,000 charging points across more than 1,100 cities to start with, and has outlined an ambitious plan to hit around 1 lakh public chargers by 2030. On top of that, the e Vitara will be offered with an innovative Battery-as-a-Service subscription model and assured buyback, allowing customers to buy the SUV without the battery, pay a monthly fee for the pack and keep upfront costs in check.

Sales of the India-spec Maruti Suzuki e Vitara are scheduled to begin in January 2026, with prices expected to slot in the hotly contested midsize electric SUV segment. Market estimates suggest a starting figure in the ₹15–16 lakh range for the base Delta 49 kWh variant, stretching to well over ₹20 lakh for the fully loaded Alpha with the 61 kWh pack – a space currently being eyed by rivals like the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV and more.
