Bajaj Auto Fully Acquires KTM, Husqvarna and GASGAS

Bajaj Auto completes full takeover of Pierer Bajaj and gains control of KTM, Husqvarna and GASGAS — a major shift for the Indian two-wheeler landscape.

Bajaj has completed a decisive move that changes the global motorcycle map: through its Netherlands arm, Bajaj Auto International Holdings BV, the company has acquired all outstanding shares of Pierer Bajaj AG and taken a controlling stake in Pierer Mobility AG, the parent of KTM, Husqvarna and GASGAS. The transaction, announced via a stock-exchange filing on November 18, 2025, shifts Bajaj from a strategic investor to a majority owner with real influence over governance and long-term product planning.

Why this matters is straightforward. Bajaj already co-developed and manufactures KTM’s smaller-displacement bikes — the 125–390cc family built in Pune has been central to the partnership. Full ownership now gives Bajaj direct access to KTM’s technology, platforms and global strategy, potentially accelerating the rollout of new models and bringing greater production scale to India.

Bajaj Auto takeover also followed a financial rescue mission. The group previously arranged about €800 million (roughly Rs 8,200 crore) to support KTM’s restructuring after a period of mismanagement and weak sales. That cash injection, coupled with full control, positions Bajaj to stabilise the Austrian brands and steer their future investments and product strategy.

For the Indian market specifically, the acquisition could deepen integration between Bajaj Auto mass-market strengths and KTM’s premium engineering. Expect more R&D collaboration in Pune, wider use of KTM’s twin-cylinder know-how across Bajaj’s portfolio, and possible localisation of higher-displacement models over time. The immediate consumer impact may be limited, but strategically this is a long-term win for India’s place in global motorcycle manufacturing.
