Genesis X Gran Equator Concept Stuns with 24-Inch Beadlock Wheels & Retro-Inspired Interior
Genesis has taken a bold step into the world of luxury off-roaders, introducing the X Gran Equator Concept. With unique design elements, advanced technology, and multiple powertrain options, this concept aims to redefine off-road luxury.
Exterior Design: Rugged Yet Elegant
Genesis has incorporated its signature “Athletic Elegance” design philosophy into the X Gran Equator Concept while emphasizing off-road durability. The SUV features a long hood, short front overhang, and a narrow windshield, giving it a distinct appearance reminiscent of raised estate vehicles such as the Audi A6 Allroad and Volvo V90 Cross Country.
- The front and rear of the vehicle have stylish LED lighting that runs along the fenders in a neat parallel design.
- 24-inch beadlock wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires for extreme durability.
- Silver cladding and roof rails, adding to the SUV’s rugged appeal.
- A split tailgate that opens in two horizontal segments for added practicality.

Interior: A Retro Approach to Modernity
Unlike many futuristic SUVs, the Genesis X Gran Equator Concept takes a retro-inspired approach to its interior. Instead of a conventional infotainment touchscreen, Genesis has opted for four circular digital displays resembling analog dials. These show essential information such as navigation, wheel travel, and an inclinometer.
Additional interior highlights include:
- A two-spoke steering wheel packed with functional buttons.
- A three-gauge digital cluster displaying speed, range, and time.
- Chunky steering wheel stalks for a robust driving experience.
- Swivel front seats, allowing for flexible cabin configurations.
- Four glass sections on the roof, instead of a traditional panoramic sunroof.

Powertrain and Platform: Multiple Choices for Drivers
The X Gran Equator Concept takes inspiration from the platform of the Kia EV9. While the concept presented at the New York Auto Show runs on electricity, Genesis has assured that the final models will offer various powertrain choices, such as hybrid and range-extender versions.
Notably, Genesis has ruled out hydrogen fuel cells for this particular model, even though parent company Hyundai continues research into hydrogen-powered vehicles.

Expected Launch Timeline: Could It Arrive by 2028?
While Genesis has not officially announced production plans for the X Gran Equator Concept, Genesis design chief Luc Donckerwolke has hinted that a road-ready model could arrive in the next three years, possibly between 2028 and 2029.
As Genesis makes its way into the Indian market towards the end of 2025, fans are excitedly anticipating the possibility of the production-ready X Gran Equator hitting the Indian streets.
The Genesis X Gran Equator Concept represents a bold new direction for the brand, merging luxury with rugged off-road capability. With its distinctive design, retro-inspired interior, and multiple powertrain options, this vehicle could challenge industry heavyweights like the Land Rover Defender and Toyota Land Cruiser in the luxury off-road segment. Whether Genesis decides to bring this model to India remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—the X Gran Equator Concept has set the stage for an exciting future.
