The Hyundai Tucson earned a top rating of 5 stars for keeping both adults and children safe.
The Hyundai Tucson, a top-notch SUV, has achieved a 5-star safety rating for protecting both adults and children during crashes according to the Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) test in India. This is the first time a Hyundai vehicle has undergone testing under the new safety standards in India, putting it alongside several Mahindra and Tata SUVs.
Hyundai Tucson Adult Occupant Protection Score
The Tucson performed exceptionally well in adult occupant protection (AOP), scoring 30.84 out of 32. This makes it the third-highest scorer in AOP under the BNCAP test, following the Tata Punch EV and Mahindra Thar Roxx. The evaluation highlighted good protection for the head and neck areas of both the driver and passenger. However, it mentioned that the protection for the driver’s chest and feet was considered adequate.

The Tucson performed well in safety tests. It scored 14.84 out of 16.00 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and a full score of 16.00 in the side movable deformable barrier test, which is excellent for protection. In the side pole impact test, it received an OK rating. The Tucson also met ESC test standards. However, Bharat NCAP did not clarify if Tucson’s body shell and footwell area remained sturdy during impact or could handle more pressure.

Hyundai Tucson Child Occupant Protection Score
In child safety, the Tucson scored 41 out of 49 points. It aced the dynamic test (24/24) and CRS installation test (12/12) and scored 5 out of 13 on the vehicle assessment test. 18-month-old and 3-year-old child dummies were tested in rear-facing child seats in the front passenger seat, secured by ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg. However, Bharat NCAP doesn’t offer as much detailed information about how well child dummies are protected compared to Global NCAP.
