Kia Carens CNG Launched in India at Rs 11.77 lakh

Kia introduces a dealer-fitted CNG kit for the Kia Carens at Rs 11.77 lakh, offering a frugal 7-seater option with a Lovato-supplied system.

Kia has expanded the Carens line-up in India with its first-ever CNG offering — a dealer-fitted kit priced at Rs 11.77 lakh (ex-showroom). The CNG option is available only on the Kia Carens Premium (O) trim and is offered as an add-on to the petrol model, costing an extra Rs 77,900 over the petrol Carens’ Rs 10.99 lakh price.

What’s new and how it’s fitted

The CNG kit for the Carens is supplied and installed by Lovato as a dealer-level fitment rather than a factory-homologated system. Kia backs the kit with a three-year/1,00,000 km third-party warranty, giving buyers some reassurance about durability and after-sales support. Exact power and efficiency figures on CNG have not been disclosed by Kia, and performance is expected to dip slightly compared with the petrol tune.

Features and practicality

The Carens Premium (O) remains the only variant eligible for the CNG conversion and retains its feature set: an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, roof-mounted AC vents for the second and third rows, one-touch tumble for the second-row seats, semi-leatherette upholstery, keyless entry, electric ORVMs and a rear-view camera. While Kia has confirmed the kit’s fitment, the firm hasn’t specified how much boot space the CNG installation will consume — the petrol and diesel versions list 216 litres of luggage capacity.

Safety and market positioning

Safety equipment on the Carens remains unchanged, with six airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, vehicle stability management and ISOFIX mounts among the safety suite. The Carens carries a three-star GNCAP rating. Kia will continue to sell the entry-level Carens alongside the more upmarket Carens Clavis; the no-frills Carens is aimed at fleet buyers and those seeking value, and the new CNG option strengthens its appeal to cost-conscious buyers.

Kia’s move follows a growing trend of dealer-fitted CNG kits from several manufacturers, making the Carens a more economical choice among seven-seaters in India’s evolving market for fuel-efficient family transport.
