Mahindra Thar Roxx Crowned ‘Indian Car of the Year’ – A Well-Deserved Victory
The Mahindra Thar Roxx has made history by winning the prestigious Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) 2025 award. This accolade is a testament to Mahindra’s commitment to innovation, design, and performance in the automotive industry.
The Thar Roxx clinched the ICOTY 2025 award by the narrowest margin in the award’s 20-year history, beating the runner-up, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, by just 2 points. The Maruti Suzuki Swift secured the second runner-up position. The award was presented by Dr. Raghupati Singhania, Managing Director of JK Tyre, to Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra’s auto division, and Pratap Bose, Executive Vice President and Chief Design Officer at Mahindra & Mahindra.

The ICOTY Jury, comprising respected automotive journalists from various media houses, played a crucial role in the selection process. Each jury member was allocated 25 points to distribute among five contenders, with no single car receiving more than 10 points from any member. This transparent and rigorous evaluation process ensures that the award is truly reflective of the best in the industry.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx
Introduced in August 2024, the Mahindra Thar Roxx is a 5-door version of the popular Thar SUV. It has received an overwhelmingly positive response from Indian car buyers. The Thar Roxx scored a total of 139 points, while the Maruti Suzuki Dzire tallied 137 points, and the Maruti Suzuki Swift scored 83 points.
When picking the Mahindra Thar Rox, you can decide between a 4×2 or 4×4 drive according to what suits you best. This car comes in six versions. The 4×2 models are priced from Rs. 12.99 lakhs to Rs. 20.49 lakhs, while the 4×4 models range between Rs. 18.79 lakhs and Rs. 22.49 lakhs, following the Delhi ex-showroom rates.

Mahindra Thar Roxx: Powertrain
The Thar Roxx 4×4 is equipped with a powerful 2.2-liter diesel engine. In its most powerful configuration, this engine produces 150 bhp and 330 Nm of torque when matched with the 6-speed manual transmission. If you opt for the 6-speed automatic transmission, you get even more power with 172 bhp and 370 Nm of torque.
You can also get the Mahindra Thar Roxx 2WD model with a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine. It delivers 162hp and 330Nm of torque with the manual transmission, and 177hp and 380Nm when paired with the automatic. These engines come with a 6-speed manual gearbox and the option to upgrade to a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
