Maruti Suzuki Sets New Record with 2.36 Lakh Units Sold in January 2026

Maruti Suzuki posts its highest monthly sales ever in January 2026 with strong SUV and export growth.

Maruti Suzuki India kicked off 2026 with a historic sales performance, reporting a total of 2.36 lakh units sold in January — marking the highest ever monthly volume for the country’s largest carmaker. This milestone reflects robust demand across both domestic and international markets, driven particularly by utility vehicles and export demand.

According to the company’s sales update, total dispatches touched 2,36,963 units in January 2026, comfortably surpassing figures from the same month last year. This strong performance underlines continued market momentum for Maruti Suzuki even as broader industry sales remain bullish.

Domestic deliveries were also solid, with 1,78,300 units sold in India, a modest year-on-year increase compared to January 2025. What stands out is the sharp uptick in exports, which rose nearly 88 % to reach 51,020 units — an all-time monthly high for the brand as it expands its footprint in key markets overseas.

SUV Demand Drives Growth

The automaker’s utility vehicle (UV) range played a starring role in this record turn-out. Maruti Suzuki saw strong sales of popular models such as the Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Victoris, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny and XL6. These SUVs collectively delivered 75,609 units, which represents a 16 % year-on-year growth over January 2025, underscoring the sustained appetite for SUV-style vehicles in India’s passenger car market.

In contrast, the compact car segment — encompassing staple models like Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift and WagonR — saw a decline, registering 72,738 units compared to higher volumes in the previous January. Despite this dip, the overall strength of the SUV portfolio helped offset the small-car sales contraction.

Other Segments Perform Variedly

Maruti’s mini segment, including models such as the Alto and S-Presso, remained steady with 14,268 units, while the vans segment saw moderate growth thanks to the popular Eeco. However, the light commercial vehicle category, represented by the Super Carry, recorded a slight contraction.
