Mini Cooper S Convertible launched in India at Rs 58.50 lakh — 204hp, electric fabric roof, 9.4-inch OLED and premium kit in a compact drop-top.
Mini India has quietly added a long-awaited drop-top to its lineup: the Mini Cooper S Convertible, launched at Rs 58.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Priced to undercut rivals, it arrives as a fully imported model and immediately stakes a claim as the most affordable convertible on sale in the country.
The convertible borrows much of its look and mechanicals from the Cooper S hatchback but dressed for open-air motoring. Its two-door silhouette features Union Jack tail-lamps and an octagonal grille treatment with body-coloured trim and protective cladding. Mini equips the car with 18-inch alloy wheels as standard, keeping the familiar Cooper S cues while giving the convertible a slightly more elegant stance.

Practicality in this compact package is surprisingly sensible. The electrically operated fabric roof is the star: it opens and closes quickly — in 18 and 15 seconds respectively — and can operate at speeds of up to 30 kph, while a partial ‘sunroof mode’ lets you slide the top back without going fully down. With the roof up the boot offers 215 litres; drop the roof and usable luggage space reduces to about 160 litres.

Under the bonnet sits a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that delivers 204 hp and 300 Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic driving the front wheels. That combination gives the Mini Cooper S Convertible brisk performance — a 0–100 kph sprint in 6.9 seconds and a top speed near 237 kph — so it’s as lively on the backroads as it is stylish parked on the boulevard.

Inside, Mini has loaded the convertible with high-end kit to match the price and personality. The cabin gains a black-and-beige knitted theme, a circular 9.4-inch OLED touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Harman Kardon sound system, and tech niceties such as wireless charging, a head-up display and ambient light projection across the dash. Front occupants enjoy powered and massaging seats — a nice touch for long coastal runs.
