New Mercedes-Benz GLB debuts as a more spacious, fully electric SUV with up to 631km range, advanced ADAS tech and hybrid powertrains to follow.
Mercedes-Benz has pulled the wraps off the all-new GLB, and this time the popular family SUV has gone fully electric while also growing in space, comfort and technology. Offered in both five- and seven-seat configurations, the New Mercedes-Benz GLB is aimed squarely at buyers who want a practical premium electric SUV that can double up as a long-distance cruiser and a family hauler.
Inside, Mercedes has reworked the packaging to make day-to-day life easier. Ingress and egress are now more convenient, headroom has been improved across all three rows, and the redesigned second row offers better thigh support for longer journeys. The boot now swallows up to 540 litres of luggage, while an additional 127-litre frunk gives owners extra space for charging cables.

At launch, Mercedes will offer two pure-electric variants globally: Mercedes-Benz GLB 250+ and GLB 350 4MATIC. The GLB 250+ is a rear-wheel-drive version with 268bhp, aimed at efficiency-focused buyers, while the GLB 350 4MATIC adds an all-wheel-drive layout and bumps output to 348bhp for stronger performance and all-weather confidence. Both models use an 85kWh battery pack combined with a new 800-volt electrical architecture. On paper, the GLB 250+ can deliver up to 631km of range.
Fast-charging capability is another highlight. With compatible 320kW DC fast-chargers, Mercedes claims the GLB can add up to 260km of range in just 10 minutes, making highway stops quick and convenient. The SUV also features advanced energy recuperation, a new one-box brake system and bidirectional charging capability, which will be enabled via an over-the-air update at a later stage.

Visually, the New Mercedes-Benz GLB stands out with more upright proportions and wider tracks that give it a stronger stance. The exterior design is modern yet unmistakably Mercedes, with LED lighting that incorporates a new star signature, flush-fitting door handles and an illuminated grille featuring a Mercedes-Benz pattern. A new panoramic glass roof can switch between clear and opaque at the touch of a button and integrates 158 illuminated stars, enhancing the sense of occasion inside the cabin, especially at night.

Under the skin, the Mercedes-Benz GLB moves to a new computing architecture and a comprehensive suite of sensors, including eight cameras, five radar units and 12 ultrasonic sensors. This hardware supports Mercedes’ latest MB.DRIVE driver assistance platform, which brings a host of ADAS features. Highlights include an updated version of DISTRONIC adaptive cruise control, optional Lane Change Assist, improved automated parking systems and a new centre airbag designed to offer better protection in side-impact crashes.
A few months after the global launch of the electric models, Mercedes will add three 48V hybrid variants to the GLB line-up. These will be powered by a new 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired with an integrated electric motor and an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The mild-hybrid system will allow the Mercedes-Benz GLB to run on pure electric power at city speeds for short distances, while also recuperating up to 25kW of energy during deceleration. For buyers who are not ready to go fully electric yet, these Mercedes-Benz GLB hybrid versions promise a strong blend of efficiency, refinement and everyday usability.
