New Toyota Hilux Revealed: ICE, 48V Hybrid and BEV Join the Lineup

Toyota unveils the ninth-gen Toyota Hilux with diesel, mild-hybrid and a first-ever body-on-frame BEV — modern cabin, dual-motor EV and global rollout plans.

Toyota has pulled the cover off the ninth-generation Hilux, and this time the rugged pickup arrives with a full spread of powertrain choices — conventional internal-combustion engines, a 48V mild-hybrid option and, for the first time, a battery-electric body-on-frame variant. The reveal underscores Toyota’s multi-pathway strategy as it broadens the Hilux’s appeal for both traditional buyers and those seeking electric workhorses.

Visually the new Hilux is more modern and purposeful. The front end gets slimmer LED headlamps and bold TOYOTA lettering across the nose, while the BEV model adopts a sealed grille and distinct alloy wheel designs for improved aerodynamics and a cleaner look. Practical touches include redesigned side steps and a rear deck step to make bed access easier — small but useful updates for everyday utility.

Inside, Toyota has focused on a significantly upgraded cabin with a clear emphasis on digital convenience and comfort. The dashboard is dominated by larger screens and a more contemporary layout, bringing the pickup closer to SUV standards for in-cabin tech. The refreshed interior will be a major selling point in global markets where customer expectations for comfort and connectivity keep rising.

Under the skin Toyota will offer the new Hilux with conventional diesel engines and a 48V mild-hybrid diesel that follows later, but the headline is the 2026 Toyota Hilux BEV. Reports indicate the electric variant — previewed as a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup — uses a battery pack in the neighbourhood of 53–59kWh and is estimated to return roughly 240–315km on the WLTP cycle. Toyota says the BEV will retain respectable utility, with payload and towing capability engineered to meet pickup expectations.

Toyota plans a staggered launch: the new Hilux made its global debut in Thailand and the BEV is expected to lead the initial market rollout, with production and sales scheduled to begin there late in 2025 and broader market introductions through 2026. Exact details on India availability and car price in India have not been announced, but Toyota’s move suggests the Hilux family will play a role in the brand’s future line-up here as pickups and SUV updates gain more attention.
