Porsche celebrates a major milestone as the one millionth Macan rolls off the Leipzig production line.
In a landmark achievement, Porsche has officially produced its one millionth Macan at its Leipzig facility, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s journey since the compact SUV’s debut in 2013. This accomplishment not only celebrates the Macan’s global popularity—with over 82,000 units delivered in 2024 alone.

Evolution of the Leipzig Plant
The decision to manufacture the Macan in Leipzig in 2011 transformed the site from a basic assembly plant into a full-fledged production facility. Between 2011 and 2013, Porsche invested heavily in infrastructure, adding a body shop and paint shop, and creating 1,500 new jobs.

Today, the plant is a beacon of flexibility, producing combustion, hybrid, and fully electric vehicles on a single line. Awards and honors include the Lean and Green Management Award in 2021 and the Factory of the Year award in 2023.

Porsche Macan 4 Electric
The second-generation Macan, now fully electric, began series production in 2024. The milestone vehicle—a Macan 4 in Frozen Blue Metallic. It offers a power output of up to 300 kW, which is about 408 horsepower. It can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds and has a top speed of 220 km/h. Its battery holds 100 kWh, giving it a range of up to 612 km based on WLTP tests.

Charging is quick—getting from 10% to 80% takes roughly 21 minutes with 800V DC charging at 270 kW. Interior highlights include a two-tone Black and Chalk leather finish, Adaptive Sports Seats, a panoramic roof, and a head-up display with augmented reality.

The one millionth Macan was handed over to Stefan Schmidt, a 62-year-old entrepreneur from Kiel, Germany, at the Porsche Experience Center Leipzig. Schmidt praised the Macan’s blend of sportiness and everyday usability. As part of the factory collection experience, he took the vehicle for a spin on Porsche’s racetrack, designed with corners inspired by legendary circuits.

Porsche’s Role in Central Germany’s Economy
Gerd Rupp, Chairman of Porsche Leipzig GmbH, emphasized the Macan’s role in regional development: “With the Macan, Porsche has become one of the most important economic drivers and employers in Central Germany.”
Porsche’s electromobility push is part of a broader Volkswagen Group initiative. The Leipzig plant continues to expand, with new facilities for axle production and an additional body shop, reinforcing Porsche’s commitment to sustainable, high-performance manufacturing.
