Suzuki India recalls over 3.8 lacks 125 cc scooters

Suzuki India recalls Access, Avenis, and Burgman 125 scooters, plus the V-Strom 800DE

Suzuki India is recalling several scooters and motorcycles. This includes models like the Burgman 125, Access 125, Avenis 125, and the new V-Strom 800 DE. The reason for the recall is a possible problem with the high-tension cord.

Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited is recalling three of its popular 125cc scooters – the Access 125, Avenis 125, and Burgman Street 125. A recall has been issued for 388,411 scooters manufactured between April 30, 2022, and December 2, 2022. The company announced the recall on July 25, 2024. If you have one of these scooters from that time frame, it could be impacted.

Among them, over 2.6 lakh Suzuki Access 125 scooters are included in this recall. Suzuki India is being cautious and asking you to bring your scooter to the nearest service center for a check-up. If there’s a problem, Suzuki will take care of it for you.

V-Strom 800 DE

In another case, the company had to recall 67 units of the V-Strom 800 DE midsize adventure bike. These motorcycles, made between May 5, 2023, and April 23, 2024, are being called back because of a possible problem with the rear tyre. The tire could crack, have the tread separate, or show other deformations. If you own one of these affected motorcycles, the company will get in touch with you and replace the rear tire if needed.

The problem arises from a defective high-tension cord connected to the ignition coil. Suzuki explains that the issue occurred when an incorrect high-tension cord, not meeting the drawing requirements, was attached to the ignition coil. This led to cracks and breakage in the cord because of the repetitive bending caused by the engine’s movements while running.

If the high-tension cord in your engine cracks and water seeps in, it can make your engine stall and prevent it from starting. Moreover, this water exposure might harm the vehicle speed sensor and throttle position sensor because of leaked ignition output. These damages could result in problems such as speed display malfunction or challenges in starting your vehicle.
