Toyota Innova Hycross becomes the first MPV tested by Bharat NCAP, earning a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating for both adult and child occupants.
In a significant milestone for the Indian auto industry, the Toyota Innova Hycross has secured a stellar 5-star safety rating in the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) crash tests. This marks Toyota’s first vehicle tested under BNCAP—and it sets the bar high.
What makes this achievement stand out? The Innova Hycross isn’t just the first MPV, but also the first hybrid vehicle to be evaluated by BNCAP, proving that safety and innovation can go hand in hand.

Adult Occupant Safety: 30.47/32 Points
The vehicle scored 14.47 out of 16 on the frontal offset deformable barrier test, showing good protection for most body parts. It received a perfect score of 16 out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test. The side pole impact test was rated as “OK.” A few points were lost because the chest protection was not ideal, preventing it from earning a full AOP score.

Child Occupant Protection: 45/49 Points
The vehicle scored full marks of 24 out of 24 on the dynamic test. ISOFIX anchors and a support leg kept both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies safe in rear-facing child seats. The vehicle received a minor point deduction in the overall test score, earning 9 out of 13, mainly because it lacks an integrated child restraint system. Overall, this vehicle ranks among the best for child safety in BNCAP’s history.
