The exterior look of the 2026 Prado stays true to its tough design, but the biggest change is in its engine. The diesel engine now has a 48V mild-hybrid system. This system includes an electric motor-generator, which replaces the usual alternator. It also has a small DC-DC converter and a compact 48V lithium-ion battery with a 4.3Ah capacity. The automatic transmission remains an 8-speed torque converter, ensuring smooth shifts no matter the terrain.

Mild-Hybrid Tech Explained
The hybrid system offers more than just better fuel economy. It also improves daily driving. You’ll notice quieter and faster engine starts, especially in stop-and-go traffic. When accelerating, the system delivers up to 16 bhp (12 kW) of extra power and 65 Nm of additional torque.
It also allows the vehicle to handle water depths of up to 700 mm thanks to the high-mounted motor-generator. Toyota strategically mounted the motor-generator high on the engine and waterproofed it, ensuring hardcore adventure seekers won’t have to compromise for cleaner tech.

While Toyota India hasn’t officially confirmed a launch date, market speculations suggest a late 2025 or early 2026 debut. As for pricing, expect the Prado to be positioned strategically under the LC300, possibly in the Rs 80–90 lakh range (ex-showroom), making it a desirable choice in the luxury SUV segment.
