Volkswagen has officially taken the wraps off the Golf GTI Edition 50, a high-performance hot hatch launched to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic GTI badge. Set to be the most powerful and fastest GTI yet, this limited-edition model brings with it a host of mechanical and cosmetic upgrades.

Born in 1975 with the first Golf GTI, the GTI moniker has come to define performance hatchbacks globally. In its latest iteration, the Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 50 carries that legacy forward with a powerful heart and Nürburgring credentials to match.

Powertrain & Performance

Under the hood lies a re-engineered 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 321 bhp and 420 Nm of torque—25 bhp and 20 Nm more than the Clubsport variant. Mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic gearbox, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds. Impressively, it has also become the fastest Volkswagen-badged car to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife, clocking a time of 07:46.13 minutes.

Volkswagen offers a GTI Performance Package for drivers who want more aggressive handling. The package lowers the ride height by an extra 5 mm, making a total drop of 20 mm. It comes with 19-inch Warmenau forged wheels fitted with Bridgestone Potenza Race semi-slick tires. An Akrapovič titanium exhaust system is included, cutting weight by 11 kg. The package also features software updates for smoother steering and the standard adaptive chassis control (DCC) for better ride quality.

Cosmetic Highlights

The Edition 50 stands out with a black-painted roof and wing mirrors. It features unique Edition 50 badging and black tailpipe finishers that catch the eye. Special trim details on the door sills add a refined touch. Inside, the cabin showcases Racing Green-striped seats, complemented by red seat belts and custom accents. The seats sport a checkered pattern as a nod to traditional GTI style. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather and carries the GTI 50 badge, completing the limited-edition look.
