Yamaha R6 production will end in 2026, marking the end of a legendary 600cc supersport era. Final track-only units to be delivered in 2027.
Few motorcycles have left as indelible a mark on the supersport segment as the Yamaha R6. First launched in 1999, the R6 quickly became a benchmark for middleweight performance, blending razor-sharp handling with a screaming inline-four engine. For nearly three decades, it stood as one of the most iconic sportbikes in the world, adored by enthusiasts and racers alike.

However, Yamaha has now confirmed that the curtain is finally closing on this legend. While the Yamaha R6 was withdrawn from road use in 2021 due to Euro 5 emission regulations, it continued to live on as a track-only machine. For the past five years, riders could still experience its thrill in the form of the R6 Race Base Model. But Yamaha Japan has announced that production will officially end, with the last order window closing on August 31, 2026. Deliveries of the final units are scheduled to begin in February 2027.

The Yamaha R6 Race Base Model retains the heart of the original road bike—a 599cc inline-four engine—paired with suspension and braking components borrowed from the bigger R1. Stripped of road-legal necessities like lights and number plates, it was built purely for the track. This uncompromising design ensured that the R6 remained a favourite among serious riders chasing lap times.
With the R6 bowing out, Yamaha closes a glorious chapter in its racing-inspired lineup. For fans, the end of production is bittersweet—marking the loss of a true supersport icon but also celebrating the legacy of a machine that defined an era.
