BMW Motorrad Unveils the BMW R 12 S Retro Roadster: A Modern Tribute to a Classic Legend R 90 S
BMW Motorrad has introduced the R 12 S, a vintage-style roadster inspired by the classic 1973 BMW R 90 S. This bike is constructed based on the R 12 nineT, which hit the market earlier this year in India. The R 12 S is an upgraded version of the R nineT, complete with a stylish Lava Orange Metallic paint finish that harks back to the iconic R 90 S Daytona Orange from 1975. It’s still uncertain if the R 12 S will be available in the Indian market.

BMW R 12 S Design
The R 12 S bike catches the eye with its unique BMW Option 719 Classic II spoked wheels featuring anodized rims. It sports black handlebars and a handlebar-mounted cockpit fairing with a tinted windshield. The black upside-down fork tubes perfectly match the striking orange color scheme. Additionally, the motorcycle boasts a retro-style rounded half-fairing and headlight that add to its distinctive look.
The style of the bike is enhanced by specific features like the ‘S’ in red on the side panels. The brushed aluminum used on the fuel tank and seat bump adds silver highlights. The single seat with a orange stitching on the seat, and bar-end mirrors, all in Lava Orange, give it a retro 1970s feel. The BMW R 12 S stands out with a unique left-side twin exhaust setup.

BMW R 12 S Features
The standard features of the R 12 S come with the Comfort Package. This package includes Hill Start Control, Shift Assistant Pro, Heated Grips, and Cruise Control, making your rides more comfortable. Additionally, BMW Motorrad offers the Headlight Pro, an adaptive cornering light system. You can also use accessories from the R 12 nineT with the R 12 S, like titanium exhaust systems, soft bags, and many more options to enhance your motorcycle experience.
The bike has front forks and a rear monoshock that you can adjust to your liking. It also has powerful brakes with a twin 310mm front disc and a single 265mm rear disc, all on 17-inch wheels. These wheels are fitted with 120/70 front and 180/55 rear tires.

BMW R 12 S Engine
The R 12 S is powered by the same 1,170cc air-oil cooled four-stroke, twin-cylinder boxer engine that you can find in the R 12 nineT. It gives you 108 bhp at 7,000 rpm and a peak torque of 115 Nm at 6,500 rpm. This engine works with a 6-speed gearbox. The BMW R 12 S can reach a top speed of 215 kmph. The R 12 S is closely related to the R 12 nineT, sharing its core components like chassis, hardware setup, and cycle parts.
