BMW R 1300 GS Bikes Recalled Due to Faulty Starter Relay

BMW R 1300 GS motorcycles manufactured before March 18, 2024, are affected by the recall

BMW is recalling the R 1300 GS in markets worldwide because of a faulty relay causing the bike to stall. The brand had previously recalled the same model in February as part of a service campaign to fix a problem. But, the issue is still there. So, the company plans to swap the semiconductor relay with an electromechanical starter relay.

It looks like roughly 25,000 units may have been impacted by the flawed relay setup. Besides replacing the hardware, the R 1300 GS will require some software adjustments. Although the traditional starter relay is currently in stock, the software update to integrate the new part will be released globally in mid-August.

So far, BMW has come across about 8 cases worldwide where motorcycles had issues with melted or burnt starter relays. To fix this problem, BMW is swapping out the defective semiconductors with an electromechanical starter relay at no cost to you.
