The new-generation Kia Carnival and Kia EV9 are likely to hit the Indian market as CBU models at first.
Kia India is getting ready to grow its range by introducing two highly awaited models: the next-gen Kia Carnival and the Kia EV9. Scheduled for debut on October 3, 2024, these vehicles signify a key step for the Korean car manufacturer to boost its influence in the luxury MPV and electric car markets in India. The Carnival, previously seen in India as the KA4 at the 2023 Auto Expo, is set to make a return with a fresh look. The EV9 will stand out as the most expensive model in Kia’s lineup in India.
Kia Carnival
The upcoming Carnival headed to India is an updated version of the Kia KA4 previewed at the previous Auto Expo. Insider info reveals that it will first come as a fully imported model, with local production slated for later. The imported Carnival is anticipated to kick off around Rs 50 lakh.
The new model features a more vertical look, with a redesigned front grille and fresh headlights that stand tall. These headlights come with a three-step light system and stylish L-shaped LED daytime running lights. Additionally, the updated bumper boasts a broader central air intake.

Outside the country, the latest Carnival model includes two 12.3-inch screens for entertainment and controls, a display projected onto the windshield, a backseat entertainment setup with a large 14.6-inch HD screen, eight airbags, and cutting-edge driver assistance systems (ADAS) and various seating arrangements, such as a 7, 9, or 11-seater configuration. Many of these features are likely to be included in the India-specific version of the vehicle.
The new Carnival is now out worldwide, offering various engine options like the 3.5-liter petrol, 1.6-liter petrol-hybrid, and 2.2-liter diesel engines. Before, the older Carnival in India only had the 2.2-liter diesel engine with an automatic transmission. This trend might carry over to the new model too.
Kia EV9
The Kia EV9 SUV, the upcoming second electric vehicle from Kia for the Indian market, is set to make its way into the country through the CBU route. It is anticipated that the price of the Kia EV9 might exceed Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom). This luxury electric vehicle is poised to become the priciest Kia car globally once it hits the Indian market.

The three-row model might come in 2WD or 4WD options. The EV9 offers a choice between a 76.1 kWh and a 99.8 kWh battery pack, providing a maximum WLTP-rated range of over 541 km on a single full charge. Some key features of this car could be a Level 2 ADAS suite, powered seats for the second row, connected car technology, a powered tailgate, a 12.3-inch digital display setup and adds a 14-speaker Meridian sound system. and multi-zone climate control.
This car is big – measuring over 5,000 mm long, 1,980 mm wide, and 1,755 mm tall. It’s one of Kia’s largest passenger vehicles ever. The EV9’s wheelbase is 3,100 mm long, making it 200 mm longer than the Kia Telluride, which is Kia’s biggest SUV with a combustion engine.
