River Indie Electric Scooter Surpasses 7,000 Sales, Puts Bengaluru Startup on the Map.
Bengaluru-based EV startup River Mobility is making waves in India’s electric two-wheeler market with its flagship product, the River Indie. Since its debut in August 2023, the Indie has carved a niche for itself, recently surpassing 7,000 units in cumulative sales—an impressive milestone for a startup that’s barely two years into production.

Consistent Growth in 2025
The year 2025 has been especially promising for River Mobility. Monthly retail sales of the Indie reached the 600-unit mark in January and have steadily climbed since. With over 4,400 units sold in the first half of the year alone, the brand has already achieved a 77% jump over its total 2024 figures (2,515 units), underscoring the increasing demand for sustainable and innovative mobility solutions.

Priced at Rs 1.43 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru), the new River Indie Electric Scooter combines practicality with stylish features. It has a 4kWh battery that offers a claimed range of 161 km IDC. The electric motor provides a peak power of 6.7 kW and 26 Nm of torque. Riders can choose from three riding modes: Eco, Ride, and Rush. It offers a large 55 litres of lockable space, with 43L under the seat and 12L in the glovebox.
The River Indie Electric Scooter is fitted with 14-inch alloy wheels and front footpegs for extra comfort.One of the significant upgrades in the latest model is the introduction of a chain final drive, aimed at reducing long-term ownership costs and improving durability.

River Mobility’s rollout strategy focuses initially on Southern and Western India—regions leading the EV transition. The company currently operates in cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kochi, Mysore, and Visakhapatnam, with expansion planned into Trivandrum and Vijayawada soon. By 2026, it aims to establish a presence in over 100 cities across India.

Yamaha’s Strategic Investment and Upcoming Launch
What’s also fueling buzz is Yamaha’s partnership with River. In 2024, the Japanese giant invested Rs 350 crore, signaling strong faith in River’s potential. The two are now co-developing Yamaha’s maiden electric scooter for India, codenamed RY01, based on the Indie’s platform. Expected to debut around the festive season, this collaboration could significantly boost River’s brand recognition and technological clout.
