New Citroen Basalt Coupe-SUV Impresses with Top Safety Scores: 26.19/32 for Adults, 35.90/49 for Kids
In August this year, Citroen introduced the Basalt at an attractive price of Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This coupe SUV shares the Common Modular Platform with the Aircross. Recently, the Basalt underwent a crash test at the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) and received an impressive safety rating of 4 stars.
Citroen India’s Basalt coupe-SUV recently made history as the brand’s initial passenger car to undergo crash testing for the Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) safety evaluation. During these assessments, the vehicle scored 26.19 points out of 32 for adult safety and 35.90 out of 49 for child protection.

The Citroen Basalt underwent two tests. The first test was the ‘Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test,’ where it scored 10.19 out of 16 points. In the second test, the ‘Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test,’ the electric SUV achieved a perfect score of 16 out of 16 points. The agency mentioned that during the ‘Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test’, the Basalt car only offered minimal protection for the driver’s chest, pelvis, and legs.
The Basalt performed well in keeping kids safe. It got a score of 19.90 out of 24 for child occupant protection (COP). When it comes to installing child restraint systems (CRS), it aced it with a perfect 12 out of 12. However, it scored 4 out of 13 in the vehicle assessment category.

Citroen Basalt: Safety Features
The Citroen Basalt comes with many safety features to keep you and your passengers safe. This includes six airbags, electronic stability control, ISOFIX seat mounts, hill hold control, and 3-point seat belts for all seats in every model. Additionally, the Basalt uses strong materials like High Strength Steel, Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS), and Ultra High Strength Steel (UHSS) to handle front and side impacts while protecting the interior of the car.
Citroen Basalt: Powertrains
You have two engine options available for the Basalt. There’s a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine that gives you 81 bhp and 115 Nm of torque. It comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the more potent 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine offers 108 bhp and 195 Nm of torque in the manual variant and 205 Nm in the automatic one. This provides a more thrilling driving feel, with the choice of a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
