VinFast VF6 Secures 5-Star Bharat NCAP Safety Rating

VinFast VF6 EV mid-size SUV earns top 5-star Bharat NCAP crash test rating for adult and child safety, showcasing strong protection and advanced safety features.

VinFast’s compact electric SUV, the VF6, has achieved a significant milestone in safety testing by securing a 5-star rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP). This top safety accolade — for both adult and child occupant protection — reinforces VinFast’s commitment to high safety standards as it expands its electric vehicle lineup in India’s fast-growing EV market.

In the rigorous Bharat NCAP crash evaluation, the VF6 scored 27.13 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection and 44.41 out of 49 for child occupant protection, comfortably earning a 5-star result in both core categories. While most body regions performed well in tests such as frontal impact and side impact evaluations, the VF6’s driver chest protection in the frontal crash was noted as relatively weak — an area where it lost a few points. Nonetheless, the overall result surpassed the threshold for the highest possible rating.

Bharat NCAP crash testing involves a comprehensive series of assessments, including frontal offset deformable barrier impact, side impact, and side pole impact tests. In these, VF6 demonstrated very good head and neck protection for both driver and passenger, scoring full marks in the side movable deformable barrier test and earning an “OK” rating on the side pole impact — crucial checks that evaluate how well a vehicle shields occupants in real-world accident scenarios.

Child safety performance was a particular highlight for the VF6. During dynamic safety tests with child restraint systems, controlled dummy movement and stable installations helped deliver a high score. The SUV achieved full marks in the dynamic and CRS installation tests and performed strongly in the vehicle assessment segment — contributing to its robust child protection score.

The 5-star safety rating covers all VF6 variants, confirming that the Earth, Wind and Wind Infinity trims all meet Bharat NCAP’s stringent safety criteria. To achieve this performance, VinFast has equipped the VF6 with a comprehensive safety kit as standard. This includes seven airbags (including a driver knee airbag), electronic stability control (ESC), ISOFIX anchor points for child seats, 3-point seat belts with reminders for all passengers and compliance with AIS-100 pedestrian protection norms.
