Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z Downsized to 349cc Engine

Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z now runs a 349cc engine with 40.6hp, aligning with GST 2.0 norms while retaining its iconic design and features.

Bajaj Auto has taken a bold step by reworking its flagship Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z to house a 349cc engine, a move that reflects the company’s wider strategy under India’s GST 2.0 regime. This downsizing brings the Pulsar in line with Bajaj’s other 400cc offerings, including KTM and Triumph models, which have all transitioned to 350cc engines to benefit from tax advantages.

The new Pulsar NS400Z now produces 40.6hp at 9,000rpm and 33.2Nm of torque at 7,500rpm. While this marks a slight drop compared to the outgoing 373cc motor’s 43hp and 35Nm, the revised engine delivers peak output higher in the rev band, giving it a sharper, more peaky character. Bajaj achieved this by reducing the stroke from 60mm to 56.1mm while retaining the 89mm bore, mirroring the Dominar 400’s setup.

Visually and mechanically, the NS400Z remains unchanged apart from the new engine. Riders will still enjoy the same aggressive styling, dual-channel ABS, LED lighting, and robust build that have made the Pulsar series iconic.

At present, Bajaj lists the bike at ₹1.93 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the same price as before the GST 2.0 transition. However, considering the Dominar 400 saw a significant ₹37,000 price cut after its downsizing, enthusiasts are keenly watching whether Bajaj will adjust the NS400Z’s pricing in the coming weeks.
