Mahindra XUV700 5-Seater Discontinued: Here’s Why

Mahindra XUV700 Now Offers 7 Seats as Standard in AX5, AX5 S, and MX Trims.

Mahindra’s XUV700 has been a benchmark in the SUV segment, blending comfort, luxury, performance, and advanced technology. However, recent reports suggest that Mahindra is set to discontinue the 5-seater version of the XUV700 due to low demand among customers. The decision comes as most buyers are opting for the 7-seater variant, which offers better practicality and premium features.

Although the 5-seater model is spacious and well-equipped, its sales have been low. The AX5 trim, the only one available as a 5-seater, lacks many features found in higher trims. It does not include advanced safety systems like ADAS or side airbags. It also misses out on 18-inch alloy wheels, leatherette seats, and an electric driver’s seat with memory. Inside, the vehicle lacks a dual-zone climate control and Sony 3D surround sound.

The AX7 and AX7 L models of the Mahindra XUV700 have seen a price hike of Rs 30,000-50,000.

Additional missing features are a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, wireless charging, ventilated seats, and the all-wheel-drive system with diesel automatic found on the AX7L. Because of these missing features, most buyers are willing to pay more for the 7-seater version, which offers a better driving experience.

Looking ahead, Mahindra intends to focus on the more popular 6-seater and 7-seater versions of the XUV700. From the base variant to the top-end trim, the SUV will continue to deliver exceptional features and strong performance. The XUV700 will remain available with two engine options: a 2.0-liter turbo petrol producing 197 bhp and 380 Nm torque, and a 2.2-liter diesel engine with output variations—182 bhp with 420 Nm torque in 2WD configuration and 450 Nm torque in AWD setup.

Mahindra’s decision to discontinue the 5-seater XUV700 reflects the market’s preference for larger, more feature-packed SUVs. With a price range between ₹16.73 lakh and ₹31.46 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), the XUV700 continues to be a top contender in the segment. If you are considering purchasing this SUV, choosing the 7-seater variant could be the best way to ensure maximum comfort and convenience.
