Hyundai Motor Company has taken a bold step toward ecological restoration with the launch of its IONIQ 9 Seed Ball Drone Station. Designed to tackle the aftermath of forest fires, this project combines electric vehicle innovation, drone technology, and sustainable strategy to regenerate wildfire-damaged ecosystems—starting with Korea’s East Coast region of Uljin.

Technological Innovation Meets Environmental Stewardship
Flagship SUV-Based Restoration: The IONIQ 9, Hyundai’s premium electric SUV, serves as the base vehicle—enhanced with built-in drone takeoff/landing functionality and cutting-edge control systems.
Drone-Assisted Reforestation: Large seed ball drones distribute clay seed balls—containing soil, seeds, and organic nutrients—from the air, enabling planting in remote, inaccessible zones.
V2L Charging System: Hyundai’s vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology autonomously powers drone operations, ensuring off-grid sustainability.
Low Impact Operation: With zero emissions and minimal noise, this system works harmoniously within sensitive ecosystems.

Mobile Control Center: The rear cabin of the IONIQ 9 features swivel seating, dual screens, and a drone-operating PC—transforming it into a fully functional mobile office for field experts.

Global CSR & Local Impact
Hyundai’s IONIQ Forest Project, active since 2016, engages communities in creating thematic forests across 13 countries including India, the United States, Brazil, and Vietnam. This new drone station joins the previously launched IONIQ 5 Monitoring Drone Station to enhance data-driven restoration work.
Collaborative Efforts: Hyundai has partnered with the Korea National Arboreta and Gardens Institute and Tree Planet, a tree-planting social venture, under a five-year agreement to restore forests affected by the 2022 wildfires.
