Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara Launch Pushed to End of 2025

Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara Launch Delayed: India’s First Electric SUV Now Expected in Late 2025

Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, India’s first all-electric SUV, has faced a considerable delay in its launch, pushing the debut date to the second half of 2025. Originally expected earlier this year, this delay was confirmed during the company’s recent financial results call, where executives hinted at a postponed timeline for its domestic availability.

The e-Vitara is set to be manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat facility. While production was initially planned to begin in May, current developments suggest uncertainties around this timeline. Chairman R.C. Bhargava has stated that most of the first-year production, approximately 70,000 units, will be allocated for export markets. For Indian buyers, the e-Vitara is expected to be available by September 2025 through the Nexa dealership network.

Specifications and Performance

Unveiled earlier this year during the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, the e-Vitara promises impressive specifications. It comes in two variants: a base model with a 49 kWh battery and premium models equipped with a 61 kWh battery.

The WLTP range varies, with the 49 kWh version offering up to 346 kilometers, while the 61 kWh variant provides a combined range of 428 kilometers. Acceleration times for the 49 kWh model are noted at 9.6 seconds for 0-100 km/h, with the 61 kWh model achieving this in 8.7 seconds, both reaching a top speed of 150 km/h.

The power outputs are equally impressive, with the smaller battery providing 142 bhp and the larger one delivering 172 bhp, supported by a consistent torque of 192.5 Nm across both versions. Notably, Maruti Suzuki has opted for lithium-ferro-phosphate (LFP) battery technology for this SUV, which is recognized for its durability and performance.

Despite earlier sightings of the e-Vitara in full production form at Nexa dealerships across India, no official reason has been given for the delay. Speculations point to possible logistical or supply chain challenges.
