Kia Carens Now Offered in Just One Variant at Rs 11.41 Lakh — Key Features Like Sunroof & ADAS Dropped
Kia India has shaken things up in its Carens lineup, making a bold move by axing eight variants from its portfolio. This significant shift follows the debut of the Kia Carens Clavis earlier this week, signaling a new direction for the automaker’s MPV strategy. Let’s dive into the details of what’s changed and how it impacts prospective buyers.
The extensive Kia Carens range has now been streamlined to just one variant—the Premium(O) trim, priced at Rs 11.41 lakh (ex-showroom). Previously, buyers had the flexibility to choose from nine different variants, including Premium, Gravity, Prestige, and the top-end X-Line. However, with this overhaul, eight trims have been discontinued, leaving only the Premium(O) variant in the market.

Feature Cuts and Changes
In this transition, the Kia Carens has dropped some top-notch features. For instance, the Premium(O) trim no longer includes sought-after amenities like a sunroof, ventilated seats, automatic climate control, leatherette upholstery, ambient lighting, cruise control, push-button start/stop, a 6-seat layout, and Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). These modifications might disappoint buyers looking for an MPV with more features.

Powertrain Overhaul: No More Automatic Transmissions
While the Premium(O) variant offers three engine options—a 115hp 1.5L petrol, a 116hp 1.5L turbo-diesel, and a 160hp 1.5L turbo-petrol—it no longer comes with an automatic gearbox. The petrol and diesel engines are now available only with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the turbo-petrol unit features a 6-speed iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission). This means the 7-speed DCT and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmissions have been entirely phased out from the Carens lineup.

Why Has Kia Made These Changes?
Kia’s decision to discontinue multiple variants and eliminate automatic gearbox options likely stems from a broader strategy to streamline production, improve cost efficiency, and align with shifting market demands. While the Carens remains a strong player in the MPV segment, these changes suggest Kia is realigning its offerings to cater to a specific audience rather than maintaining an extensive portfolio.

The revamped Kia Carens may disappoint buyers who were looking forward to high-end features and automatic gearbox options. However, the simplified lineup ensures a more focused, accessible, and possibly cost-effective MPV for families and urban commuters.
